G.P. and Pacman went to the single "A" ballpark with Papa and Nana last night. Our team, like many others around the country, has a tradition of silly games, promotions, and weird happenings. Where else does a person dressed like a giant head of celery come out to rally the crowd? And where else do members of the crowd bring heads of celery to the game to raise in the air in response?
G.P. and Pacman got to hang with the mascot:
And, they got pulled out of the stands to participate in one of the the silly between innings events that are a single "A" tradition. They were dressed up as chefs:
And then sent out to race up and down the field to see which of them could "build" a hamburger faster:
G.P. is highly competitive:
And he outran his older cousin. He was triumphant.
Tonight, G.P. and I went out to Papa and Nana's farm for Father's Day. Defender of Liberty was still on her way home from City on the Opposite Coast, and the "Big Kids" were with their dad, so it was just the two of us.
While G.P., Pacman, Papa, and Pacman's dad Lineman went fishing, Nana took me to see the stand of milkweed that was in bloom. (A word about Lineman. I have three younger brothers, and Lineman and I are closest in age - about 15 months apart. He is a big cheese in the legal department of our regional power utility. G.P. knows that his uncle works for the "power company," but is convinced that anyone who works for them can fix the power when it goes out. I love to tease Lineman that G.P. would be much more impressed at this age if he actually showed up with a cherry picker and a tool belt.)
The milkweed is at its peak:
And its heady scent is intoxicating:
Grasses of every description are going to seed:
I even found this growing in one of the wheat fields:
He already has a farmer's tan. Now he just needs a farm of his own.
Great photo, what a find in a wheat field!
